Vienna-Hamburg:
The Schnitzel meets the Fish Roll

23. April 2024 | Blog, Company Infos

Not only our trains on the well-known Roland routes will connect Vienna with Hamburg, but also our partnership with Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG – HHLA for short.

It is an exciting time for us and we are looking forward to breaking new ground together with HHLA.

As part of the new partnership, there are of course a number of factors to consider:

Why choose a partnership?
What changes can be expected?

To give you a comprehensive insight into the future of Roland, we asked our management to answer these questions and a few more in our interview.

Why did we decide to bring in a strategic partner? What goals are we pursuing?

“After careful consideration, we decided to bring a partner on board. In HHLA, we have found a strong strategic partner to help us develop Roland sustainably over the long term. It’s not just sustainability and digital innovation that are important to us, but above all the expansion of our range of routes.”

Who is our partner? What makes HHLA so special?

“HHLA is no stranger to us. We have known the company for around 40 years and have been working closely together for just as long, which is why we are convinced that we have a great partner by our side.

Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG is a leading provider of port and transport logistics services in Europe. Its core business is container handling in seaports and the transportation of goods by rail and road. HHLA also offers various logistics services and develops solutions for the sustainable logistics of the future with its innovation unit.”

How will HHLA’s investment affect our performance and our offering?

“Even though HHLA is taking a 51% stake in Roland, we would like to emphasize that we will remain true to our principles. We see the partnership as a great opportunity to expand our route network together with HHLA – a long-term development of the well-known and valued Roland quality.”

Will there be changes to the management?

“No, we – Christian Gutjahr and Nikolaus Hirnschall – will remain the sole managing directors of Roland.”

Will anything change for our customers?

“We will still be ourselves.

Roland will remain the Roland that everyone knows and appreciates – a partner with handshake quality, personal service and a team that goes the extra mile for our customers and, of course, an expanded product portfolio.”

„We remain ourselves. Roland remains the Roland that everyone knows and appreciates.“

Managing Director

What will change for our team?

“The same applies to our team: we will still be ourselves .

A team where both the individual members and we ourselves can fully trust. In addition, our partnership with HHLA opens up new perspectives and exciting opportunities for personal development and further training.”

What will the cooperation with HHLA look like?

Operationally, little will change: our team will continue to take care of every order personally. Together with HHLA, we are working closely on the expansion of our route network and in the area of sustainability. In addition, our team enjoys the benefits of a partnership with a major international company, while we retain our entrepreneurial independence.”

What makes us so special?

“Our team is what makes Roland special. Every day we work energetically for your containers and concerns. We are a company with personal full-service and people who can be contacted directly and strive for solutions.

Our attitude is what makes us different, and it will continue to be so. “

„Our team makes Roland. Our attitude defines us. And it will continue to be so.“

Future Prospects

No matter what was, no matter what is, what matters is what is to come – a remarkable partnership between two companies based on years of experience and appreciation.

Roland and HHLA, two independent but well-coordinated teams that respect each other and pursue common goals.

A combination of Viennese wit and Hamburg chit-chat. Few words, but with a lot of weight.

To sum it up:

The same, only better.
