Overview of Renovations, Closures and Detours

We would like to give you an overview of the next planned large-scale renovations, closures, and diversions on the German rail network that are relevant to traffic to/from Austria.

NEW 14.06.2026 (originally 10.07.2026) – 12.12.2026

Diversion via Salzburg, Rosenheim.
Train lengths and weights are restricted.

01.05.2026 – 10.07.2026

This route is a key north-south connection.
Two main diversion routes via Uelzen, Salzwedel, Stendal and Bremen, Osnabrück.
From 01.05.2026 till 13.06.2026, the line will be partly closed. From 14.06.2026, it will be completely closed until 10.07.2026.
Overlaps with detour traffic between Hamburg and Berlin.

01.05.2026 – 04.06.2026

Preparatory construction work (ordnance surveys and soil investigations) for general refurbishment from 09.07.2027 till 10.12.2027.
Detours via Bremervörde and Rotenburg.
Partial single-track closures and diesel traction requiered.

01.08.2025 – 30.04.2026, NEW 14.06.2026

Delayed completion due to low temperatures in January and February 2026.
Two main detour routes via Stendal and Uelzen or Magdeburg and Braunschweig.

We have carefully planned the corresponding diversionary services with our rail partners, however, short-term delays and train changes cannot be ruled out, especially with regard to the overlapping diversionary routes via Uelzen and Stendal.
